Ginger (scientific name: Zingiber officinale Rosc.) Is a perennial herb of the ginger family Zingiberaceae. Rhizomes with yellow-green flowers and pungent scent. The plant height is 0.5-1 meters; the rhizomes are thick and branchy, with aromatic and spicy flavors. Leaf blade lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, glabrous, sessile; leaf tongue membranous. The total pedicel is 25 cm long; spikes are cone-shaped; bracts are ovate, pale green or pale yellow, with small pointed tips. Calyx tube approximately 1 cm long; corolla yellowish green, lobes lanceolate; central lobes oblong-ovate.

In central, southeast, and southwestern China, Xianfeng Huolonglaifeng, Tongshan, Yangxin, Echeng, Xianning and Daye are widely cultivated. It is also common in tropical Asia, South East Asia, South Aisa(india/Sri Lanka/Bangledesh).

Rhizomes are used for medicinal purposes. Fresh or dried products can be used as cooking ingredients or made of pickles and sugar ginger. Stems, leaves and rhizomes can be used to extract aromatic oils, which are used in food, beverages and cosmetics.
